Vernon Edwards, 79 of Ragland, WV passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky.
He was born December 25, 1930 at Red Jacket, WV the son of the late Walter and Mary Clay Edwards. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Herbert, Walter Jr., Curtis, Charles, Rudolph, Howard, James and Lewis Edwards and six sisters, Myrtle Burke, Katherine Sykes, Emogene Hayton, Vernie Edwards, Beulah Mae Cantrell and Dimple Hartley.
Vernon was a retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal Co.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Ann Stacy Edwards; one son, Walter Grant (Rita) Edwards of Ragland, WV; four daughters, Patricia Ann (James) Runyon of Ragland, WV; Debbie (Reece) Moore of Ragland, WV; Darlene (David) Murphy of Beech Creek, WV and Lois Denise (Don) Taylor of Turkey Creek, Ky.; one brother, Richard Edwards of Apple Grove, WV; seven granddaughters, Chastity Spencer, Kellie Evans, Tonya (Moe) Lowe, Sabrina Hurley, Alisha Brewer, Jamie Peck and Ashley Williams and twelve great grandchildren and two on the way.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Snodgrass and Mitchel Bias officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Huddy, Ky. with grandson-in-laws serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Friday at R.E.
