Roland T. Varney, 86 of Hardy, Ky. passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at his residence.
He was born October 22, 1923 in Pike County, Ky. the son of the late Lewis and Vada Blackburn Varney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ida Murphy Varney, son, Ronnie T. Varney, granddaughter, Danielle Lynn Childers, brothers, Benny, Willie and Tommy Varney and sisters, Verda Bostic and Vicy Maynard.
He was a retired coal miner from Eastern Coal Corp., a member of the UMWA, he was a US Army Veteran in World War II and a member of the Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Danny J. Varney of Canada, Ky.; one brother, James Lewis (Sharon) Varney of Meriden, CT; two sisters, Marie Justice of Toler, Ky. and Ruby Blackburn of Metter, GA; two grandchildren, Krystal Francis Campbell of Pikeville, Ky. and Chadwick May of Canada, Ky.; three great grandchildren, Emily Jean May, Hunter Dalton May and Lyndsey Nicole Childers and special friends; Judy and Eddie Martin and Jake Staton and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, March 12, 2010 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Elswick, Raymond Stanley and Jeff Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. with Belfry Chapter #141 DAV conducting Military Graveside rites. Pallbearers will be family and friends and Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Martin, Jake Staton and Charles "Fuzzy" Keesee. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Funeral Home Chapel with special services both nights at 7 PM. Online condolences at www.rerogersfuneralhome.com
